Toughest road game on 49ers schedule No. 4: Week 15 @ Seahawks

Yes, the Seahawks still manage to find a way onto this list despite having a complete teardown offseason, which included jettisoning quarterback Russell Wilson and hoping either Drew Lock or Geno Smith can hold down the fort under center.

The Hawks are easily the lowest-ranked team in a still-stacked NFC West, but one shouldn’t automatically figure this rivalry dies away quickly after years of Seattle dominating it. If anything, Seahawks fans surely will relish the opportunity to at least root against the 49ers even if their own team falls well short of the delivered expectations over the last 10-plus years.

However, that’s not the main reason why Week 15 shows up as an exceptionally tough Niners road game on their 2022 NFL schedule.

San Francisco is the road team for Thursday Night Football.

That’s always tough, having to travel on such a short week. And while it’s nowhere near as bad as the 49ers having to travel to take on the Tennessee Titans on Thursday night last season, nearly winning that game despite the challenge, it’s nevertheless tough enough.

Tack on a divisional rivalry game, and it’s understandable why the Niners would be wise to treat this game as seriously and with as much intensity as they did that famous Week 18 bout at the end of the 2019 season.
