49ers schedule, Week 3 @ Broncos: DT D.J. Jones, CB K’Waun Williams, OL Tom Compton

Plenty of players from the Niners roster the last few years elected to jump ship and head over to the Denver Broncos in free agency during the offseason, becoming part of what’s easily been the most impressive divisional arms race we’ve seen in some time.

The Broncos looked to get out of the AFC West cellar this season by making one big-ticket acquisition, quarterback Russell Wilson, whom San Francisco won’t have to face twice a year when it squares off against the Seattle Seahawks.

But Denver is still going to be a challenge. A big one on Sunday Night Football in Week 3.

While 49ers fans probably won’t care what veteran offensive lineman Tom Compton does in the game, they’ll surely pay attention to veteran nickel cornerback K’Waun Williams, who was such a vital part of the Niners secondary since he originally joined in 2017.

And they’ll certainly see if standout nose tackle D.J. Jones, who signed a lofty three-year deal during the offseason, will make his presence known, too.

Both Jones and Williams were integral pieces for San Francisco from 2017 through 2021, and it’ll be tough to see them making an impact for a revamped Broncos team this season.
