After selecting EDGE Drake Jackson with their second-round selection, the 49ers looked to make a splash in the third round with the selection of running back Tyrion Davis-Price.

With the 93rd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers selected Tyrion Davis-Price, running back out of LSU.

The 49ers were in the market for a running back after losing Raheem Mostert to the Miami Dolphins in free agency and really benefit from additional depth at the position.

Video game streamer Dr. Disrespect announced the pick.

Standing at 6-foot-0 and weighing 211 pounds, Davis-Price played for three seasons at LSU and dominated there in 2021 with 1,003 yards rushing on 211 attempts. He finished his college career with 1,744 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns in his three years there.

Davis-Price will play alongside second-year running back Elijah Mitchell. It will now be up to the new assistant head coach and running back coach, Anthony Lynn, to get the max effort out of Davis-Price.

Why 49ers added a running back so early in NFL Draft

Injuries to Mitchell last season and the departure of Mostert likely led to the 49ers needing to add more depth to that already position group.

The Niners still have one more pick on day two with No. 105 overall, the last in the third round. After seeing an EDGE taken in the second round, Drake Jackson, and a running back taken with the early third-round pick, it looks as though an offensive lineman or defensive back might be in the cards for the next selection of the 49ers.

With Davis-Price in the red and gold, though, general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan can put a nice checkmark next to a position they needed to address in this draft for more depth.

But the question still remains, is a trade in the cards for the 49ers on day two? It seems highly unlikely that wide receiver Deebo Samuel will be traded at this point, seeing as how a player of his caliber would’ve commanded a day-one pick and then some.

However, rumors have resurfaced about quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo being back on the trade block with the Houston Texans being linked to the quarterback. Will he be in Houston next season?

Only time will tell.
