49ers NFL Draft 2022: Live tracker, updates and pick-by-pick grades

Round 7, Pick No. 262 Overall: 49ers select QB Brock Purdy, Iowa State
Ah, yes. “Mr. Irrelevant.” The final pick of the NFL Draft. And the 49ers had the honor and luxury of making this selection in 2022.
For all intents and purposes, doing so is essentially just having the first call on the class of undrafted free agents, albeit with the luxury of initially signing said rookie to an initial undrafted free agent.
The Niners have kept three quarterbacks on their 90-man offseason rosters before, sometimes four, as was the case in 2021 when Nate Sudfeld and Josh Rosen competed behind Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo for the QB3 role.

This year, it’ll be Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy competing with Sudfeld for the rights to support Lance.
Purdy, selected with this year’s final pick, completed 71.7 percent of his passes for the Cyclones last season, tossing 19 touchdowns against eight interceptions while also rushing for 238 yards and a touchdown, too.
However, a practice-squad designation will likely be Purdy’s ceiling with San Francisco.
Nothing wrong with the pick, but there isn’t much exciting about it either.
