49ers Round 7 NFL Draft Target: Kevin Austin Jr., Notre Dame

The 49ers own the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, “Mr. Irrelevant,” which basically means nothing more than having a first call on all the undrafted free agents out there.

Again, pretty much every wide receiver at this stage in the draft is going to be a project, but some have more enticing physical traits than others.

Such as Notre Dame wide receiver Kevin Austin Jr.

Austin looks as if he was born to play football, standing at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, having run a solid 4.43 40-yard time at the NFL Scouting Combine. While his route tree isn’t the greatest, and his overall body is work is largely skewed towards an impressive second-half finish in 2021, there’s still plenty of upside to consider a Round 7 selection here.

Last season, Austin’s 48 catches for 888 yards and seven touchdowns put him on draft boards, and the ascent could eventually translate into a nice productive NFL career, too, if he continues on that trajectory.

The 2022 NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 28.
