49ers Round 4 NFL Draft Target: Danny Gray, SMU

It’s important to note San Francisco doesn’t automatically have to target a Deebo Samuel replacement on the first two days of the draft if he’s traded, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan reinforce this position anyway even if Samuel is retained.

Albeit much later, potentially on day three of the draft.

One such target worth monitoring is SMU wide receiver Danny Gray, a speedy 6-foot and 186-pound slot-type receiver with good route-running ability and the experience necessary to double as a return specialist on special teams.

Gray might not have the biggest catch radius, and teams will understandably be concerned about his lack of size and how that’ll translate into a full 17-game season at the pro level.

However, if the 49ers are looking to get far more explosive out of the slot, Gray would be an attractive Round 4 option after he posted 49 receptions for 803 yards and nine touchdowns his final year at SMU.
