Trade No. 3: 49ers use Day 3 NFL Draft capital to get Round 3 comp pick back

A good strategy for John Lynch in this year’s NFL Draft is to realize the 49ers should focus more on the overall quality of players, not necessarily the quantity of prospects selected.

Even if Deebo Samuel is gone by the time Week 1 rolls around, the Niners still boast a playoff-caliber team, especially with the NFC West weakened a lot during the offseason. And with yet another deep wide receiver draft class, the hope would be a Samuel-like replacement could be in the folds.

At any rate, San Francisco doesn’t have to value all its day-three selections, three of which are in Round 6.

Meanwhile, after their own aggressive offseason dealing, the Miami Dolphins own only four picks in the draft and aren’t poised to select until the end of Round 3, using a compensatory pick acquired from the 49ers from last year’s Trey Lance trade-up.

Miami isn’t necessarily in rebuild mode. But it could use a lot more draft capital, while the Niners may eye that pick, No. 103 overall, as a would-be target.

The Dolphins, unlike the 49ers, should focus a bit more on the quantity of players added and not necessarily quality.

Back with three picks in Round 3 again, the Niners should happily make this kind of deal.
