Round 6, Pick No. 187 Overall (from Broncos): 49ers select RB Hassan Haskins, Michigan

For the most part, San Francisco appears set at running back heading into 2022 despite losing its former starter, Raheem Mostert, to the Miami Dolphins in NFL free agency.

Right now, the depth chart would be poised to start second-year man Elijah Mitchell, then the trio of Jeff Wilson Jr., Trey Sermon and JaMycal Hasty, but Kyle Shanahan has regularly fielded as many as five tailbacks in training camp, and the tendency for the 49ers to run the ball a lot means there should be insurance anyway.

Plus, adding competition for both Wilson and Hasty might be a good thing.

At 6-foot-2 and 228 pounds, Michigan running back Hassan Haskins is more of a third-down back with a big body and physical play style. He might not emulate a lot of outside-zone carries, but short-yardage work could easily be his niche.

Haskins impressed with his 2021 workload, rushing for 1,327 yards and 20 touchdowns, averaging 4.9 yards per carry.
