NFL Draft Pick No. 14: Minnesota Vikings – Trent McDuffie, Cornerback, Washington

The Minnesota Vikings would be pleased with this result, trading down to get more draft capital while filling one of the biggest needs on their roster.

Cornerback has been a big issue for the Vikings in recent years, and Cameron Dantzler isn’t enough to help fix that. They’ll need to invest more into the position, and Trent McDuffie has been bolting up NFL Draft boards.

McDuffie had an excellent 2021 and is an excellent representation of how stats are sometimes misleading. He didn’t record an interception, but that doesn’t tell the story of how well he covered play this season.

Of note, McDuffie had 35 tackles and six passes defended this season and has a skill set that will fit into any defensive system. While McDuffie is slightly undersized at 5-foot-11 and 195 pounds, he has the athleticism and coverage ability play on the outside as well as in the slot.

McDuffie is also a strong tackler and does well in run support, so teams won’t need to worry about that facet of the game either. McDuffie won’t have the plaudits Ahmad Gardner and Derek Stingley have, but he should be a very solid pro.
