49ers NFL Draft strategy No. 1: Accept what you can get for Jimmy Garoppolo

Right now, it doesn’t appear as if San Francisco will be able to trade Jimmy Garoppolo. It tried, failed and is now stuck with him on the roster, along with his nearly $27 million owed in 2022.

Garoppolo still dealing with recovery from offseason shoulder surgery doesn’t help, but it’s important to note how things get crazy in the middle of the draft. This year’s class isn’t particularly deep or talented at the position either, but it’s seemingly a yearly tradition for teams to scramble for quarterbacking prospects regardless.

What happens to the teams that lose out on a draft bid for a signal-caller?

Teams like the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers could be in the mix for a rookie quarterback. However, if they’re unable to land someone by the likes of Pitt’s Kenny Pickett or Liberty’s Malik Willis, it’s not completely out of whack to think they’d suddenly entertain the idea of trading for Jimmy G.

Granted, the 49ers aren’t going to get the lofty trade package in return like they initially thought they would. But that’s fine. Lynch doesn’t need to hold out for some other team to get desperate in training camp.
