49ers finally trade Jimmy Garoppolo in this 7-round mock draft
Round 6, Pick No. 220 Overall (Compensatory): 49ers select RB Abram Smith, Baylor
Running back, and sixth-round gem Elijah Mitchell had an amazing rookie season under Kyle Shanahan and will look to build even bigger on that in the 2022 NFL season. Though he appears to be the starter by a comfortable lead, the Niners will continue to operate within a running-back-by-committee approach.
It’s a crowded backfield, even with the loss of Raheem Mostert, but if Baylor running back Abram Smith is still on the board this late, it’s about to get a lot more crowded.
Although he’s pegged to be a backup and special teams contributor early in his career, Smith put up starting running back numbers during his last season at Baylor.
The former Bear averaged 6.2 yards-per-carry, rushed for 1,601 yards and found the end zone 12 times.
If his transition to the NFL is a smooth one, the running game in San Francisco figures to be one that is hard to contain.
