Round 3, Pick No. 105 Overall (Compensatory): 49ers select EDGE DeAngelo Malone, Western Kentucky

The 49ers never really got to experience the Dee Ford that could’ve been. In fact, it’s almost scary to think of him fully healthy on the field with Nick Bosa on the other side.

Nonetheless, with Ford on his way out, it’s time to get excited about the possibility of DeAngelo Malone making his way in. His upside is tremendous and he’s as good against the run as he is against the pass.

He’s an every-down player and covers the entire field like a blanket, as evident by his numbers.

As a senior for the Hilltoppers he amassed 94 tackles, four forced fumbles and nine quarterback sacks, which was good enough for second in his conference. In tackles for a loss, he led all players with 16.5.

Malone checks all the boxes in terms of what the Niners are looking for in an edge rusher, so much in fact, they’ve already scheduled a visit.
