Round 1, Pick No. 61 Overall: 49ers select IOL Dylan Parham, Memphis

Going with offensive linemen with a team’s first pick is neither sexy nor overly exciting unless that team’s O-line is absolutely terrible.

And while the 49ers have other pressing needs, such as within the secondary, there’s a bit of a gap between the top-end defensive backs and the next-level tier, creating a need to capitalize on better value.

Plus, reinforcing the O-line is never a bad idea.

Memphis offensive guard Dylan Parham certainly improved his NFL Draft stock at the combine, running a sub-5.0 40-yard time and posting an impressive 108 inches on the broad jump. While he might be slightly undersized at 6-foot-3 and 311 pounds, Parham nevertheless moves well and has tremendous football IQ.

Much of this selection will be predicated on whether or not the Niners re-sign veteran Pro Bowl left guard Laken Tomlinson in free agency or decide to let last year’s second-round pick, Aaron Banks, finally get his shot. Either way, right guard can serve to be upgraded, too, and a player like Parham would certainly solve a lot of the interior needs.
