Deebo Samuel, not quarterback Trey Lance, appears to be the oddsmakers’ favorite for a 49ers player to take home the 2022 NFL MVP award.

The NFL might as well take its annual MVP award and simply dish it out to the league’s best quarterback.

That’s been the trend, after all, as no non-QB has won the accolade since running back Adrian Peterson did so way back in 2012.

The betting odds for the 2022 NFL MVP are out now, thanks to our partners over at WynnBET, and it’s not too surprising they list quarterbacks Josh Allen (+600) and Patrick Mahomes (+700) as the top two favorites to take home the league’s top player award.

But for the San Francisco 49ers, whose Super Bowl window is open right now, they have to have a player high up in the rankings, right?

Well, yes. It’s no quarterback, though. Rather it’s wide receiver Deebo Samuel.

Deebo Samuel is highest-ranked 49ers player in NFL MVP odds

Again, not surprisingly, the bulk of favorites to take home the 2022 MVP award are quarterbacks, and Samuel comes in at No. 17 with +5000 odds.

That makes him the Niners’ top-ranked player in this regard, while the second highest-ranked San Francisco player is quarterback Trey Lance at No. 21 with +7500 odds.

Samuel isn’t the top-ranked non-quarterback in MVP betting odds, though, as that honor goes to Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry (+2500).

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp (+3000) and Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (+4000) are also ahead of Samuel, too.

It might be a bit odd to see tight end George Kittle and EDGE Nick Bosa way down the list, but the MVP hasn’t exactly favored tight ends ever in its history, and the last defensive player to take home the hardware was with Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor in 1986.

Sorry, Bosa. MVP awards simply aren’t for your side of the ball. Best to stick to trying to gain that Defensive Player of the Year honor instead.

As for Samuel, whose 1,770 all-purpose yards ranked third most last season, he has an outsider’s chance but will face that never-ending challenge of unseating a quarterback as the league’s MVP this upcoming year.
