49ers Free-Agent Target No. 5: EDGE Von Miller, Rams

This one is almost like a fantasy pick, but there is room for a big one-year contract, and the 49ers do need someone to start to move on from Dee Ford.

While this would almost be a luxury signing for San Francisco, this is a defense predicated on the front four consistently getting to the quarterback, and a duo of Von Miller and Nick Bosa would automatically be one of the best in the league.

Miller is 33 years old but showed no signs of slowing down with 9.5 sacks for the regular season and a strong showing in the playoffs. He also had 19 tackles for loss in the regular season, too.

Miller may not be in his prime but he can be a superb one-year rental if the 49ers decide to devote the resources gained from being rid of Ford and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in this way. Bosa and Miller would be able to combine for at least 20 sacks during the season, to go along with the array of situational defensive linemen that the 49ers possess.

It’s unlikely, but the 49ers could certainly do worse than upgrade their pass rush for a run towards the title.
