Let’s take a look at three potential mistakes the 49ers absolutely cannot afford to make when the 2022 NFL offseason roles around.

It’s safe to say that the San Francisco 49ers’ 2021 season, regardless of how it ultimately ended, was a success.

For starters, the Niners made it all the way to the NFC Championship game for the second time in three years. Considering the team had a four-game losing streak and was, at one point, 3-5 and staring at the hard reality of missing the playoffs altogether, finishing as one of the NFL’s final-four teams is nevertheless a noteworthy accomplishment.

There is obviously going to be a lot of drama surrounding the status of current signal-caller Jimmy Garoppolo, as it is probable at this point he will have to step down with San Francisco likely jettisoning him this offseason, leading to 2021 rookie quarterback Trey Lance stepping into the spotlight.

But what would be some mistakes that would absolutely botch the 49ers’ chances of succeeding in the future if they were to commit them during the 2022 offseason?

General manager John Lynch and the rest of the front office will have a lot of pressure to fix a few areas of the team’s roster between now and training camp, which seems so far away, so let’s dive into three mistakes San Francisco absolutely has to avoid making over the course of the offseason and heading into 2022.
