49ers Stud: Running Back Elijah Mitchell

In the wake of Deebo Samuel’s rushing career coming alive, it’s easy to miss running back Elijah Mitchell’s silent domination.

As a rookie, he’s done nothing but gain positive yardage and set rookie records in San Francisco. From the moment the 49ers brass called his name in the 2021 NFL Draft, he’s brought nothing but value and production.

Mitchell was drafted in the sixth round at 194th overall, an absolute steal.

In 2021, Mitchell rushed for 963 yards, setting a franchise season record for yards by a rookie. In Sunday’s game, his dominance continued by setting yet another franchise record. His 93-yard day was the most all time by a Niners rookie in the playoffs.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan has always been a running back-by-committee type of guy. Could Mitchell be that explosive power back who gives Shanahan his first 1,500-yard runner? We’ll have to wait and see.

One thing is for sure, Mitchell will be ready for Green Bay.
