The 49ers 2022 NFL schedule itself won’t be known for some time, but we do know the opponents they’ll face off against next season.

The San Francisco 49ers are still wrapping up their 2021 NFL schedule with one more game left in regular-season action and, hopefully, a trip deep into the playoffs.

And while fans are almost entirely focused on how the Niners do to wrap up the current season, it never hurts to look ahead and see what’s on tap for head coach Kyle Shanahan and Co. a little less than a year from now.

Currently, we still have no clue how San Francisco’s 2022 regular-season schedule will shape up, what prime-time games the team will receive and what kind of road trips are in store. The official 2022 NFL schedule won’t be released until likely May of this year, so that’ll create some anticipation.

But there is a report out there, paired with some pre-existing knowledge, of which teams the 49ers will play next season.

49ers 2022 NFL schedule opponents

The San Francisco Chronicle’s Eric Branch recently reported and broke down the list of opponents the Niners will face off against in 2022.

49ers home opponents

  • Kansas City Chiefs
  • Los Angeles Chargers
  • Miami Dolphins
  • New Orleans Saints
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Washington Football Team
  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Los Angeles Rams
  • Seattle Seahawks

49ers away opponents

  • Atlanta Falcons
  • Carolina Panthers
  • Chicago Bears
  • Denver Broncos
  • Las Vegas Raiders
  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Los Angeles Rams
  • Seattle Seahawks

After traveling for the first-year 17th game in 2021, San Francisco will stay at home this year in an at-large inter-conference contest against the Dolphins. The 49ers, as with the rest of the NFC West, will also face off against the AFC West and NFC South next season with other 2021 third-place at-large games against the Bears and Washington.

Of course, there are the regularly scheduled divisional showdowns against the Rams, Seahawks and Cardinals, a home and away game each, which will always be of interest.

But the bigger interest might be seeing Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady coming back to his hometown Bay Area, while the possibility of the Niners facing off against quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in another uniform, assuming he joins one of those quarterback-needy teams on San Francisco’s 2022 NFL schedule.

Fans will probably be hoping for a bit of a grudge match versus quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, too, in a regular-season setting.
