The 49ers host the Texans at Levi’s Stadium in Week 17, and Niner Noise breaks down betting odds, injuries and how you can tune in live.

The San Francisco 49ers got a little help from the Miami Dolphins in Week 16, as Miami pulled off a much-needed win over the New Orleans Saints, one of the teams threatening the Niners for one of the three remaining Wild Card spots in the NFC playoff picture.

With only two more regular-season games to go, San Francisco doesn’t necessarily have to win out to get into the postseason dance, but pulling off a victory over the 4-11 Houston Texans on Sunday would surely help matters.

A lot.

True, the Texans have pulled off back-to-back wins, including a surprising upset over the Los Angeles Chargers last week. And Week 17 is likely to feature a matchup between two rookie quarterbacks, Houston’s Davis Mills and the 49ers’ Trey Lance, dueling it out in this late-season bout.

Lance has a bit of an advantage, though, as the Texans still rank in the bottom five in scoring, both on offense and defense, lending to the idea the Niners will come away with a win as long as they play a clean game.

49ers injury report vs. Texans Week 17

San Francisco listed the following players on its Week 17 injury report:

  • LB Azeez Al-Shaair (elbow)
  • QB Jimmy Garoppolo (thumb)
  • LB Dre Greenlaw (groin)
  • S Talanoa Hufanga (knee)
  • DL Maurice Hurst (calf)
  • DL D.J. Jones (ankle)
  • RB Elijah Mitchell (knee)

Garoppolo’s UCL sprain is the trigger for what’s likely to be Lance’s second-ever start at the NFL level. And while there’s some controversy surrounding whether or not Garoppolo will play again this season, all signs are pointing to Lance having the opportunity to showcase why the Niners aggressively drafted him last spring.

49ers vs. Texans odds, spread, over/under & betting pick Week 17

The opening spread for Week 17 named San Francisco as a heavy 12.5-point favorite, according to WynnBET, and that line hasn’t changed at all despite Garoppolo’s injury.

Perhaps the oddsmakers are comfortable enough with Lance or just recognize how bad Houston has been this season, possibly a combination of both.

The Niners have a massive moneyline, too, coming in at -700, whereas the Texans are at +500. The over/under is set at 44.0.

While San Francisco has been prone to playing some sloppy football this season, don’t expect the Texans to come in here and pull off the upset, likely not even covering the massive spread either, and our prediction here is a one-sided 27-14 Niners victory.
