49ers Worry No. 2 vs. Texans: The cornerback situation

The Titans only needed one wide receiver to go crazy against the 49ers to win the game, as the team was hopeless to contain A.J. Brown, which cost them the game from a defensive standpoint.

The rest of the offense was actually very well contained, but it’s even more worrisome that it takes just one elite receiver to cost the Niners.

The Texans don’t have an elite receiver on their team, but the cornerback situation is so dire for San Francisco that it wouldn’t be surprising to see someone act like one.

The 49ers know they won’t have Emmanuel Moseley back to help shore up the position, so the team will once again be reliant on the defensive line to put as much pressure on rookie quarterback Davis Mills as possible.

Mills didn’t look very good at first but has grown game to game as a solid quarterback when given enough time to throw. He’s earned the full-time starting role for 2022 at the very least, and he can’t be underestimated.

One positive is the Niners are 2-0 this year against rookie quarterbacks, defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars (Trevor Lawrence) and Chicago Bears (Justin Fields).

For every game San Francisco plays this season, however, cornerback is going to be a huge concern for fans.
