Now that it seems the Jimmy Garoppolo saga has finally come to an end, what does Trey Lance need to do to avoid mass scrutiny from 49ers fans?

The answer to the question, whether or not rookie quarterback Trey Lance will fully get his shot this season, can only be answered by none other than San Francisco 49ers brass themselves, head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch.

With current starting signal-caller Jimmy Garoppolo being deemed doubtful for this weekend’s game against the Houston Texans, thanks to recent reports he suffered a serious throwing-hand injury in Week 16’s loss against the Tennessee Titans and potentially missing the remainder of the season, it may be the time a lot of Niners fans have been waiting for.

Experiencing Lance as the full-time San Francisco starter.

But what would it take for Lance to be considered “ready” by fans, and more importantly, the 49ers organization?

That’s the million-dollar question here, as there are still a lot of questions marks and concerns when it comes to Lance. The No. 3 overall pick from the 2021 NFL Draft hasn’t taken meaningful snaps ever since his lone start of the year, way back in Week 5, and even that start was chock full of question marks, too.

So more importantly, what steps should we expect to see be taken by Lance at the end of the 2021 season and into the offseason?

We’ll dive into three crucial steps Lance will need to take to further his development.
