49ers 7-round 2022 mock NFL Draft, Christmas edition
By Peter Panacy
Round 7, Pick No. 253 Overall (Compensatory): Offensive Lineman Alec Jackson
Back-to-back seventh-round compensatory selections for San Francisco? What luck!
Again, dartboards here. But the 49ers could still reinforce their offensive line depth despite grabbing Jarrett Patterson earlier, and that O-line depth was of notable concern at the end of the preseason anyway.
It’s possible the Niners put more stock into reserve linemen Colton McKivitz and the injured Justin Skule in 2022, and maybe Daniel Brunskill goes back to being merely a backup.
That said, San Francisco would need some additional competition along the O-line, so grabbing someone like the 6-foot-5 and 323-pound Alec Jackson out of Auburn might be a wise choice.
Jackson has played multiple spots along the Tigers’ O-line before, so that flexibility might be of service as competition during training camp.
If anything, grabbing Jackson would put pressure on whichever linemen wind up on the spring roster, ensuring they push harder to stick around for the long run.
The 2022 NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 28. We’re sure to see plenty of additional mocks between now and then.
