The 49ers are on the cusp of making the playoffs in 2021, yet going after these three players in NFL free agency could help them get over the top.

With only three regular-season games left in 2021, and a crucial Thursday Night Football matchup against the Tennessee Titans on the horizon, the San Francisco 49ers have to feel pretty good about their chances to make it into the playoffs.

If the regular season was to end right now, the Niners would be holding onto the No. 6 seed in the NFC playoff picture and would have a Wild Card date with the No. 2-seeded Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

That would be a daunting task, even if quarterback Tom Brady and the Bucs are dealing with some of their own problems. And San Francisco isn’t even there yet with plenty of teams hovering just below them at the back end of the postseason seeding.

Despite the 49ers’ recent hot streak of winning five out of their last six games, there are still some must-win games on the calendar before turning things over into a weekly must-win scenario in the playoffs.

While general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan can mostly feel confident in their current roster, there are still some players out there in NFL free agency who could potentially assist with a late surge and into the postseason.

The Niners only have $2.88 million in cap space, according to Over the Cap, so whatever moves have to be of the bargain-basement variety.

Still, at this point, it wouldn’t be shocking to see these still-available free agents take that kind of a deal for some potential playoff glory.
