The 49ers and Bengals could end up in a shootout for Week 14, suggesting taking the over in your betting pool would be a smart play.

The San Francisco 49ers might not be wholly equipped to stop the Cincinnati Bengals offense, which ranks No. 7 overall in scoring within the NFL entering Week 14.

Cornerback issues have been a bane for the Niners this season, and the matter won’t be any better with one of their two starting corners, Emmanuel Moseley, sidelined for a few weeks with an ankle injury.

Not a good omen considering San Francisco has to face off against three upper-echelon wide receivers, Tee Higgins, Tyler Boyd and Ja’Marr Chase.

Cincy has scored 30-plus points five times this season already, while San Francisco has reached that mark five times, too. And while the 49ers have largely relied on the run game and ball control during their recent stretch of three wins over their last five games, Sunday’s contest has all the makings of an old-fashioned shootout.

Perhaps the only thing that could prevent Week 14’s bout from turning into a shootout is the tendency for Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow to both toss interceptions (14 on the season) and to be sacked (36, second most in the NFL).

Still, the Niners have dealt with their own turnovers, too, setting the stage for what could be a wild game.

Currently, the oddsmakers over at WynnBET have the over/under set at 49.0 with San Francisco a slight 1.5-point favorite.

What makes the over so intriguing on this particular call is the fact the Bengals have already been involved in four games this season where either they or their opponent has scored 41 exact points. With the 49ers boasting the league’s 20th-ranked scoring defense, it sure seems more than possible Cincinnati can at least get above 30 points in this bout.

Meaning the Niners would have to respond, prompting what could be a high-scoring affair and one which suggests betting the over would be a smart play.
