49ers Dud: Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo
There are going to be those who state Jimmy Garoppolo had himself a good enough game in Week 13, likely citing his stat line of 20-of-30 passing for 299 yards, two touchdowns against two interceptions.
But let’s factor in those interceptions, especially his first, which was an absolute head-scratcher right at Seattle linebacker Bobby Wagner:
Seriously, what was Garoppolo trying to do there? It would be one thing if that was a one-off mistake with a 49ers receiving target running the wrong route or something along those lines. Yet, with Garoppolo’s lengthy history of tossing interceptions to linebackers between the numbers, the above play wasn’t too much of a surprise outside of the fact it was so bad a play.
The Seahawks scored points off both of Garoppolo’s turnovers, again highlighting the fact the Niners simply aren’t good enough to overcome his mistakes, especially when there are multiple ones.
But Garoppolo falls into the “dud” column because of his inability to elevate the offense, particularly in the second half when San Francisco failed to score a single point in the third and fourth quarters.
That won’t help win games, and Garoppolo didn’t help matters there either.
