No. 4: Rams were held to just one sack

On Nov. 8, the 49ers announced right tackle Mike McGlinchey would be out the remainder of the season with torn quadriceps. In the game prior when McGlinchey suffered his injury, the offensive line gave up five sacks to the Cardinals, and the offense stalled on several occasions.

Against Los Angeles, the O-line played admirably and had no problem keeping its quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, clean.

The Rams came into the game with their shiny new toy, EDGE Von Miller, activated for the first time in a Los Angeles uniform. A pass rush featuring Miller, defensive tackle Aaron Donald and EDGE Leonard Floyd is daunting on paper.

But the Niners neutralized the pass rush by running the ball a season-high 44 times.

The initial plan was to roll with rookie tackle Jaylon Moore in McGlinchey’s stead. But after Moore suffered an injury early in the game, third-string tackle Tom Compton replaced him.

When the run game works as effectively as it did Monday night, no pass rush will be able to have an effect on the game. With San Francisco banged up along the offensive line, this game should be a blueprint for how the 49ers need to win games moving forward.
