4 late-round pass-rush prospects 49ers can target in 2022 NFL Draft

49ers NFL Draft Target No. 4: Tyree Johnson, Texas A&M
Texas A&M EDGE Tyree Johnson might have been a shoo-in for the ranks of the overlooked seventh-round selections or even pegged for undrafted free agency, but a strong 2021 campaign that has resulted in eight sacks and eight tackles for a loss over eight games played so far this season could potentially push him up draft boards and as high as Round 5.

At 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, Johnson has the build to be a solid situational pass-rusher at the NFL level, but he’s not likely to offer up much more than that as a three-down player. Johnson has typically struggled defending against the run, and his best pass-rushing moves have typically happened against weaker blockers, too.
There’s going to be a need for him to offer up some finesse to his pass-rushing game, but there’s adequate enough speed to suggest he can win in that department.
While the 49ers may seek out an every-down pass-rusher for 2022 to pair with Nick Bosa, finding some depth pieces like Johnson certainly won’t be off the table.
