No. 1: 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan

Week 9 should mark the low point of head coach Kyle Shanahan’s career.

Not only was Shanahan wholly outcoached by Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury, and it’s possible to identify numerous problems with Shanahan’s play-calling and clock management here, but it’s also apparent Shanahan is completely lacking direction with the team right now.

One of the major themes from the 49ers’ postgame press conferences is the number of “no explanation” answers from Shanahan and his players.

They don’t know how to fix what’s wrong. That’s troubling.

Up until this season, Shanahan has largely dodged whatever problems the Niners have had despite the fact he’s endured three 10-loss seasons in four years. That’s changed in 2021, though, and Shanahan’s problems on the field and with the roster are now being called out more than ever.

And if one wants to consider the Niners’ Week 9 loss to Arizona as Shanahan’s darkest moment and lowest low, his stock value to the team should reflect such.
