No. 4: 49ers commit 3 turnovers and generate 0 takeaways

Tack on a minus-three in the Niners’ season-long problems in the turnover-differential department.

Entering Week 9, San Francisco had a minus-nine mark in turnover differential, which ranked next to worst in the NFL and just above the New York Jets’ league-worst minus-12.

George Kittle’s fumble on an attempted leap over a Cardinals defender was an ominous start and a negative sign of just how quickly things were going to fall apart:

It did get worse.

Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who at least got back into good graces aside from his fumble, also turned the ball over, too, and Arizona would wind up scoring points off both 49ers turnovers in the first half.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo also tossed a late interception, which didn’t impact the game but will hurt this stat again.

The Niners have now turned the ball over 17 times this season while generating a mere five defensive takeaways of their own, including zero in Week 9 against Colt McCoy and Co.
