49ers Dud: Wide Receiver Brandon Aiyuk
49ers fans finally got the usage they wanted to see out of second-year wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, as he saw a season-high in both snap rate and target share. Aiyuk saw seven targets on Sunday, which topped his season-high of six. He also ran a route on 97 percent of his snaps and even ran more routes than fellow wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
All of that usage for Aiyuk amounted to four receptions for 45 yards and a converted two-point attempt.
This was probably Aiyuk’s best game of the year thus far, but with that type of usage, it’s easy to expect more from the second-year pro.
In games where Aiyuk saw at least seven targets last season, he averaged eight receptions for 106 receiving yards. Although Aiyuk was unable to produce the numbers he typically does, he is trending in a positive direction.
Kyle Shanahan has had good things to say about Aiyuk following the victory, and things look to be headed the right way. If Aiyuk continues to see this type of usage, a breakout game is certainly on the horizon.
