The weather might impact how the betting lines for the 49ers’ Week 7 Sunday Night Football game against the Colts shakes out.

The San Francisco 49ers get to face off against the Indianapolis Colts for Sunday Night Football this weekend, and it’s already shaping up to be an intriguing matchup for a variety of reasons.

A big storyline, of course, will be the return of Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, whom the Niners traded early in 2020 after first drafting him in Round 1 back in 2016.

On top of that, though, San Francisco will also be looking to end what’s turned into a three-game losing streak entering their Week 6 bye, and facing off against a 2-4 Colts team that’s won two of its last three games, the only loss being an overtime defeat on the road against the Baltimore Ravens, could make for quite the challenge for head coach Kyle Shanahan and Co.

Yet there’s another factor that could play into how this game pans out: the weather.

The forecast calls for a kickoff temperature of 65 degrees, yet there are going to be heavy rains expected at Levi’s Stadium with southerly winds of 15 miles per hour.

49ers vs. Colts: Week 7 betting odds affected by weather

The open-field nature of Levi’s Stadium, combined with rains forecasted for much of the weekend, could lead to some damp, dreary conditions on the field during game day and the preceding hours beforehand.

Currently, the oddsmakers over at WynnBET have the 49ers as 4-point favorites, but the interesting line to note here is the over/under, which is set at 44.0.

The money is going towards the under for both teams, the Niners at -130 and the Colts at -135, so it makes sense why bettors are likely looking at a low-scoring game that won’t reach 44 points by the time the final whistle is blown.

49ers vs. Colts: Per-game scoring tendencies

Indianapolis is averaging 23.2 points per game this season, although it’s coming off a 31-point drubbing over the lowly Houston Texans in Week 5. San Francisco’s defense, currently in the middle of the pack in points allowed, is averaging 23.8 points per game through five weeks and has surrendered 28 points or more in three of its five games played this season.

With the weather a factor, though, there’s a good chance those averages all drop.

From the 49ers’ perspective, they’re averaging 23.4 points scored per game, which is 17th in the league and will match up against a Colts defense giving up 21.8 points per game, again, the three points allowed to Houston a week ago heavily influences this.

Looking at the weather, there’s a much stronger chance both teams struggle to put up a lot of points in this contest.

So, those looking to bet on the under might end up having a bit more success Sunday night.
