No. 2: 49ers Left Tackle Trent Williams

Again, it might be troubling if a left tackle is one of San Francisco’s two best offensive players so far in 2021. It suggests there haven’t been too many other offensive standouts to surpass him.

In the case of Trent Williams, though, one also has to account for the fact the perennial Pro Bowler is an absolute stud and stalwart. Both elements can be true here.

Pro Football Focus has Williams as the No. 2 overall offensive lineman entering Week 7, his 93.4 overall grade coming in only behind Dallas Cowboys guard Zack Martin (94.3), and Williams’ efforts in both pass protection and run support have been exemplary.

Perhaps playing alongside Williams helped push Laken Tomlinson onto this list, too.

At any rate, the 49ers’ lofty investment to re-sign Williams during the offseason has paid off nicely, ensuring at least one bookend of the O-line is completely reliable.

Even though Williams suffered a brief scare in Week 4 and actually had to be carted off the field, only to return the following week at full form.

The Niners hope Williams won’t suffer any additional scares this season, as they fully need him to be at top capacity with so many other elements of the offense struggling.
