. . Laken Tomlinson. 5. player. 42.

No. 5: 49ers Left Guard Laken Tomlinson

A No. 5 spot on a power rankings list suggests being purely average in the ranks of top offensive performers, and perhaps that’s the word that should be associated with left guard Laken Tomlinson.

And not necessarily in a bad way either.

Tomlinson, neither remarkable nor flashy, has nevertheless been a constant for San Francisco’s offensive line since being acquired at the very beginning of the 2017 season, starting every game after the trade from the Detroit Lions this year.

Reliability, especially considering some of the other notable injury woes the 49ers have had along their O-line in recent years, helps here. But it’s not the prime reason why Tomlinson finds himself at No. 5.

According to Pro Football Focus, Tomlinson owns a 75.8 overall grade on the season, which is second behind left tackle Trent Williams (93.4) for best within this particular Niners unit. And Tomlinson has yet to be credited with allowing a sack while surrendering just five pressures through five games so far, also second among all San Francisco starting linemen.

Again, not flashy. But effective. Nothing wrong with that.
