49ers Round 3 Rookie: CB Ambry Thomas

Almost as bad as Aaron Banks, there isn’t much to say about rookie cornerback Ambry Thomas.

Thomas, who opted out of his 2020 campaign at Michigan before being drafted, hasn’t been a significant part of the 49ers’ defensive game plan thus far this season. And even with the number of injuries the team’s secondary has experienced, he has not been called upon all that much at all.

If anything, Thomas is quickly emerging as one of those players who’ll draw instant hindsight criticism from draft pundits, and rightfully so.

There’s no choice but to say clearly Thomas is not where the Niners front office hoped he would be in his rookie season, and his stock is unfortunately GOING DOWN.

Yes, Thomas is a player many hoped would be a steal for San Francisco, especially considering his opt-out and drop in draft stock last spring, but he just clearly isn’t someone the 49ers feel they can depend on right now.

Hopefully, things turn around for him. He has to be considered a dud for the time being.
