49ers Round 3 Rookie: RB Trey Sermon

Another player who’s been a healthy scratch at times this season, running back Trey Sermon has had an up and down start to his pro career despite the hype coming into 2021.

He currently owns a state line of 135 rushing yards (4.4 yards per carry) and one touchdown in four games, two of which he started. Unfortunately, even with veteran running back Raheem Mostert getting hurt, Sermon is the clear-cut secondary back to fellow rookie Elijah Mitchell, who we will take about later.

At the moment let’s say that Sermon’s stock is HOLDING STEADY.

Sermon has been both good and not so good at times, exemplified by getting 89 rush yards in Week 4 but also being inactive and a seldom-used piece when Mitchell has been in the mix.

But Sermon is young, and one has to admit that when he is playing, his violent rushing style can make for a player this team will rely on in the future. Sermon can’t totally be classified as either a stud or a dud for now.
