The 49ers news cycle from Week 4’s loss to the Seahawks included some notable injuries, including what’ll be a lengthy absence from Robbie Gould.

If there’s been a constant with the San Francisco 49ers news pattern over the past few years, it’s the sheer number of injuries the team seemingly suffers on a week-to-week basis.

Even before the Niners kicked off their Week 4 home contest against the Seattle Seahawks, that same 49ers news cycle centered on how punter Mitch Wishnowsky was working on field-goal tries during pregame warmups.

Not kicker Robbie Gould.

It was later revealed Gould suffered a groin strain before the game, forcing San Francisco to try Wishnowsky out as a place-kicker. And in the 28-21 Week 4 loss, Wishnowsky made an extra-point attempt but also missed another, as well as missing a field-goal try.

On a conference call with reporters Monday, head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed Gould would miss a few weeks with the injury. It’s not yet clear whether or not the 49ers will place the 38-year-old veteran on injured reserve, which would force him to miss at least three weeks. But what is clear is the Niners will have to try out contingent options in Gould’s absence.

And, no. Wishnowsky will not be one of those asked to perform double-duty.

49ers news on Trent Williams is good

One of the scarier moments from Week 4 was watching Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams depart with a shoulder injury, this potential setback causing some notable concern for Shanahan during his postgame press conference.

Fortunately, however, the initial reaction appeared worse than the actual injury itself, and Shanahan told reporters that Williams would be considered day-to-day and shouldn’t miss any extended period of time.

Quite a bit of a relief there, considering San Francisco’s offensive line depth is questionable, at best.

49ers news on Jimmy Garoppolo is much murkier

The biggest storyline from Week 4, aside from yet another disappointing loss to a division rival, was quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo departing with a calf injury after two quarters.

Garoppolo later revealed he suffered the injury on the 49ers’ opening drive, then tried to play it out for the rest of the game before the pain became too much. In relief, rookie quarterback Trey Lance came into the fray for the final two quarters, which has led to some conclusions the No. 3 overall NFL Draft pick could ultimately start for Shanahan in the Niners’ Week 5 road contest against the undefeated Arizona Cardinals.

Shanahan said that was still a possibility, depending on how serious Garoppolo’s injury was. Yet the head coach also noted Garoppolo wouldn’t be ruled out just yet, either.

If anything, Shanahan isn’t making the team’s intentions ahead of Week 5 known, essentially forcing the Cardinals to prepare and game plan for both quarterbacks.

In addition to Williams, tight end George Kittle (calf), defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (knee) and EDGE Samson Ebukam (hamstring) are all day-to-day with their respective injuries.
