49ers: 5 players who must perform better after 3 weeks of action
By Eric Gamboa
49ers Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo
Jimmy Garoppolo needs to play better, period. It is becoming pretty evident Garoppolo cannot carry the team to a deep playoff run on his arm alone. With the sluggish running game and an ailing defensive backfield, the team has no choice but to rely on Garoppolo nonetheless.
Many believe that Garoppolo has hit his ceiling and has no chance of improving his play, yet there are plenty of examples of other quarterbacks blossoming later in their careers. Need an example? Look at one, Ryan Tannehill, who resurrected his career late after leaving the Miami Dolphins for the Tennessee Titans. Like Tannehill, Garoppolo can certainly continue to improve and he certainly needs to show that he has in the next game.
He needs to show he is more than a game manager, though. If this 49ers team is going to make a deep playoff run, it all starts with an impressive win in Week 4 with his play leading the way.
With the Seahawks’ defensive scheme looking to stuff the run and double-covering George Kittle, can Garoppolo take the next step and soundly beat the Seahawks’ struggling pass defense?
Everyone will find out this Sunday.
