49ers can’t lose the turnover battle

Once again, San Francisco failed to win the turnover battle in Week 3, and what’s more concerning is the fact they didn’t record one single turnover… at all.

For as good as the Niners defense has been or can be, they don’t generate enough turnovers consistently. So far this season, San Francisco only has one interception to the stat sheet and zero defensive fumble recoveries.

Since becoming head coach of the 49ers back in 2017, Kyle Shanahan’s team accumulated turnovers in the amounts of 18 (2017), 9 (2018), 24 (2019), 21 (2020) and one (2021).

If the 49ers want to keep pace with some of the powerhouses in the NFC while helping out their own offense, then generating turnovers might be a good place to start.

Especially considering quarterback Russell Wilson and the Seahawks, despite their slow start to the year, are still more than capable of taking advantage of the Niners’ own turnovers.
