No. 2: Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars

Unlike Trey Lance and Justin Fields, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence was essentially “handed the starting keys” the moment the Jags drafted him at No. 1 overall.

Not just because Lawrence was considered the most surefire quarterbacking draft selection since the Indianapolis Colts took Andrew Luck No. 1 overall back in 2012, but also because Jacksonville has struggled so long to find one player who could ultimately define the franchise, especially on offense.

It was somewhat hard to put Lawrence above Lance on this list, and not just because this is a Niners site. After all, Lawrence has had three starts and currently leads all rookie quarterbacks with five touchdowns.

Even though those have come against seven interceptions, also tied with Zach Wilson for most in the NFL through three weeks.

True, a 54.2 completion percentage and 60.3 passer rating is nothing to brag about. But there have been moments here and there, despite head coach Urban Meyer’s shortcomings and a questionable supporting cast, that suggest Lawrence is still the real deal and only needs some time to hone his abilities.

Abilities Lance has yet to display.
