No. 2: 49ers Offensive Guard Aaron Banks

Let’s hope it’s not the case. But rookie second-round offensive guard Aaron Banks could be heading down the road of another former high-profile draft pick who fell out of favor with Kyle Shanahan, Joshua Garnett.

Injuries affected Garnett during his opening time under Shanahan in 2017, and the same has hindered Banks, too, as he suffered a shoulder injury in Week 1 of the preseason, which followed a relatively unimpressive training camp.

Fully recovered from the injury, at least based on reports, it was something of a shock Banks was a healthy scratch against Detroit.

Or was it?

Banks wasn’t exactly seen as a scheme fit for the 49ers when he was drafted, instead being more of a power-run players and not someone who’d pick up Shanahan’s outside-zone style offense.

Perhaps the Niners bear a little of blame here for placing such a high draft pick on Banks, and the only hope is his development comes along eventually.

For now, though, Banks not doing enough to at least be placed on the active gameday roster says a lot about how Shanahan feels about him right now.
