3 biggest concerns for 49ers with Week 1 just around the corner
By Peter Panacy
The 49ers are about to kick off their 2021 campaign with a road bout against the Lions, yet these three concerns should still be worrisome.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch hope to have done as much as they could have in terms of putting together the best possible squad to compete for a Super Bowl entering 2021.
While rookie quarterback Trey Lance and his bout with the veteran, Jimmy Garoppolo, has dominated nearly every Niners headline since April, there have been plenty of other developments that either promote feelings of excitement and hope.
As well as some that are quite problematic.
Granted, no roster is completely perfect. Each team, regardless of the level of talent, has potential issues from the No. 1 player all the way down to the last man on the depth chart. And as 2020 revealed, San Francisco should understand all too well how a playoff-caliber roster can be decimated by injuries.
Injuries are always a concern for any team, yes, and the 49ers are no different. While it’s impossible to predict each and every injury, it is possible to assess just how adequate a team’s depth is behind the core of starters expected to shoulder the bulk of the load.
So, we can understand how injuries are a chief concern for the Niners entering 2021. But let’s go beyond the injury factor a bit and break down three significant concerns and worries for Shanahan, Lynch and Co. with a Week 1 road contest against the Detroit Lions now just days away.
