Fantasy football: 5 must-have 49ers for your 2021 draft

49ers Fantasy Football Option No. 3: Wide Receiver Trent Sherfield
Feel like getting bold and discovering a sleeper?
Fantasy drafts aren’t won in the first few rounds. No, they’re won in the latter rounds and by waiver-wire claims. That’s what the champions will tell you.
So, if you’re unable to land a Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel but still want some 49ers production from wide receiver, don’t be afraid to pluck the player emerging as a prime tertiary target for head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense, Trent Sherfield.
Sherfield doesn’t even chart on Fantasy Football Calculator’s ADP list for wideouts, meaning he’d be the perfect last-pick grab or someone to watch for on the waiver wire.
Now, why would you waste a roster spot on a player who’ll likely be fourth in the pecking order behind Aiyuk, Samuel and George Kittle?
Well, the early outlook from training camp and preseason games suggested both Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance were developing a strong rapport with Sherfield, who can easily fill that void left by now-New England Patriots wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, only Sherfield has better game speed and might be a home-run threat, if that 80-yard preseason touchdown bomb from Lance is any indication.
As a stash player who could either serve as a handcuff to someone like Samuel or even a deeper-league FLEX, Sherfield is certainly worth keeping on your radar before he winds up being a quality reliable target.
