49ers Waiver-Wire Target No. 3: Wide Receiver Travis Fulgham

The Niners are taking a bit of a risk by assuming third-year pro wide receiver Jalen Hurd, who has yet to play a snap at the regular-season level, can stay healthy and contribute. Even during his lone preseason appearance this year, Hurd suffered two dropped passes and generally lacked the burst and explosiveness that originally led to San Francisco using a Round 3 NFL Draft pick on him back in 2019.

Maybe Hurd stays and contributes. Maybe he doesn’t. That’s an open-ended question.

But in the interest of big-bodied, physical wideouts who can contribute right now, former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Travis Fulgham would be an easy choice to go after.

Granted, citing Eagles offensive stats from a year ago isn’t overly impressive. But amid the chaos in Philly last season, Fulgham still managed to lead the Eagles offense with 539 receiving yards on 38 receptions.

Sure, Fulgham doesn’t have the top-end speed the 49ers are lacking after releasing the veteran, Travis Benjamin.

Yet Fulgham could be a safer, healthier bet over someone like Hurd.
