No. 3: 49ers Safety Kai Nacua

He might have been a long shot to make San Francisco’s 53-man roster anyway, but backup safety Kai Nacua certainly didn’t do himself any favors with his efforts on Saturday night.

Nacua, the 26-year-old journeyman defensive back, effectively robbed his teammate, cornerback Ken Webster, of a would-be interception by tipping a pass from Kansas City’s quarterback. And while that might be too much to solely blame on Nacua, he had a couple of other tough, tough mistakes later in the game.

First, Nacua laid a late hit on Chiefs third-stringer Steve Buechele when the quarterback was clearly going into his slide on a scramble.

Then, later in the game, Nacua bit on a Buechele keeper option up against the goal line, allowing the quarterback to sneak into the end zone for a go-ahead touchdown.

Again, few are anticipating Nacua sticks around on the roster. Particularly with fellow safeties like Tavon Wilson and Talanoa Hufanga playing well during training camp.

But even for his outside shot, Nacua didn’t help matters on Saturday.
