49ers roster: 4 players who now find themselves on the bubble

49ers Bubble-Watch Player No. 1: Wide Receiver Jalen Hurd
If Richie James is in danger of failing to make San Francisco’s 53-man roster, then third-year pro Jalen Hurd has to be in serious jeopardy.
Hurd, the former third-round pick who has yet to see a regular-season snap because of injuries the last two years, has missed more time again during camp because of further injury setbacks.
To the point where Kyle Shanahan effectively called Hurd out and said “there’s not a lot of time left” for the wide receiver to prove himself worthy of making the cut.

Hurd is quickly turning into one of those “what could have been?” players when it comes to his injury history, and some have already argued he reached that stage last year after suffering his original back injury during the 2019 preseason.
Another problem is the fact the 49ers have other big-bodied receivers like Mohamed Sanu and Jauan Jennings, who could help make up for the fact Hurd’s 6-foot-4 frame would have been a physical mismatch for nearly every defensive back he would have faced.
Yet the only way Hurd could have put that frame to good use would be to stay healthy and available.
So far, that hasn’t been the case.
Right now, it doesn’t look like there’s even room for Hurd on the roster even if he was healthy.
