The 49ers kick off their first preseason campaign of 2021 against the Chiefs, and Niner Noise breaks down odds, injury reports and how you can watch live.

It feels a bit weird to be excited about preseason football, but that should be the case for San Francisco 49ers fans as the team prepares for its inaugural exhibition bout of the 2021 season as it hosts the AFC defending-champion Kansas City Chiefs this Saturday.

For starters, the pandemic canceling all preseason games a year ago meant fans had to wait another full month before watching anything of the sort.

But for Niners fans, Week 1 of the preseason means a first full glimpse of rookie quarterback Trey Lance, this time going up against competition other than that he’s faced thus far during training camp.

And while only the die-hard fans might be wanting to take into account the betting odds and spreads, let’s break down what the latest and greatest is for this contest.

49ers vs. Chiefs: Betting odds and spreads for preseason Week 1

San Francisco is currently a minus-2.5 favorite over Kansas City, according to WynnBET, with a minus-145 money line going to the 49ers.

The over-under is 37.0.

For those new to betting, one would have to place $145 down to win an additional $100.

49ers vs. Chiefs: Injury reports

Preseason games are always a bit more difficult to assess, as far as injuries go, and teams aren’t required to file the usual pregame injury reports that you’ll otherwise see during the regular season.

For the Niners, however, the following players have been placed on the active/physically unable-to-perform (PUP) list:

  • DB Tarvarius Moore (Achilles)
  • S Jaquiski Tartt (toe)
  • RB Jeff Wilson Jr. (knee)

The Chiefs haven’t listed any players on their PUP list in advance of the game.

49ers vs. Chiefs: Preseason Week 1 predictions

Considering there are only three preseason games this season, there’s a slightly better chance the starters for both teams see a bit of an increase in play time instead of the usual one drive or two from previous preseason campaigns.

While this potentially means more of the veteran quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, eyes will want to focus on Lance and how well he performs against NFL-level competition going up against it for the first time.

It might be wise to stay away from any preseason money line, so going with the spread and banking on San Francisco winning by at least a three-point margin is probably the safer move.

Especially if Lance has himself a hot streak.

49ers vs. Chiefs: How to watch, stream preseason Week 1
