49ers Winner No. 2: EDGE Dee Ford

Winning doesn’t always have to be about carving out a spot on the 53-man roster or ascending the depth chart.

In EDGE Dee Ford’s case, it’s merely about getting back on the field and contributing.

Ford, of course, suffered a serious back injury all the way back in Week 1 of last season, which cast all kinds of doubts surrounding whether or not he’d even be able to play at all in 2021 and beyond.

Not only has Ford returned to the field, but he’s also fully participating in 11-on-11 drills. And looking excellent and fast while doing so.

This, from Niners Nation’s Kyle Posey:

"Did not participate in 1-on-1 pass rush drills, but played extensively during 11 on 11s and recorded one sack. Ford has looked good in camp and has not taken any “maintenance days” to rest, which means the 49ers have increased his workload daily and so far he has responded well. Shocking."

With fellow EDGE Nick Bosa back after suffering his ACL tear last year, the tandem of both Bosa and Ford makes a huge difference for the Niners pass rush, ensuring the starting duo can remain in place while not asking the rotational pass-rushers to assume roles they’re not quite cut out for.

Great news for Ford. Great news for San Francisco.
