49ers odds: Which player hauls in Trey Lance’s first touchdown pass?
By Peter Panacy
It’s inevitable 49ers quarterback Trey Lance winds up starting at some point, but which player has the best odds to catch his first touchdown pass?
Heading into training camp, the San Francisco 49ers appeared set on letting their veteran, Jimmy Garoppolo, assume the starting quarterback role while rookie QB Trey Lance developed a full year as a backup following him being drafted No. 3 overall last spring.
Yet the timetable for the inevitable transition from Garoppolo to Lance might be taking place sooner than anticipated.
All signs from Niners camp have pointed to Lance being the “real deal,” and one particular Patrick Mahomes-like throw during practice caught the attention of many in the media, both on the local and national stages.
Those kinds of plays could ultimately turn Lance into San Francisco’s starter this year.
It’s only natural to wonder which of Lance’s teammates winds up being the beneficiary of his first touchdown pass at the NFL level.
Let’s take a look at the odds.
49ers betting odds on Trey Lance’s first touchdown pass
The folks over at WynnBET have already broken down the odds for which player winds up hauling in Lance’s first touchdown:
- TE George Kittle: +200
- WR Deebo Samuel: +450
- WR Brandon Aiyuk: +450
- RB Raheem Mostert: +800
- FB Kyle Juszczyk: +1000
- Field: +1000
- RB Trey Sermon: +1500
- WR Richie James: +2000
Not too much of a surprise with Kittle being listed as the No. 1 favorite to receive Lance’s first touchdown. After all, Kittle is the 49ers’ top offensive pass-catching weapon, and rookie quarterbacks tend to look for tight ends a lot early in their respective careers.
Interestingly enough, though, fourth-year wide receiver Trent Sherfield has been one of both Lance and Garoppolo’s favorite targets during training camp.
If that carries over into the regular season, perhaps betting on the field might be a good play here.

Kittle also hasn’t been a major touchdown scorer over his career, having a max of five in two of his four seasons.
Aiyuk had five over 12 games his rookie year last season and should be in line for a bigger role in 2021.
The more provocative betting option, whenever that comes out, might end up being when Lance tosses his first touchdown pass. It’s inevitable it’ll happen, and highly likely one of the Niners’ top stars is the recipient.
But depending on how the competition between Lance and Garoppolo goes, it might be sooner than later we see Lance hitting the end zone.
