Quarterback No. 3: Josh Rosen

Josh Rosen is the presumptive No. 3 quarterback, but there are questions over exactly how assured he is of a roster spot right now.

While the 49ers have taken three quarterbacks with them on the active roster in the past, they never truly committed to Nick Mullens as the backup quarterback in previous years and would often go back to C.J. Beathard.

Injuries across the board didn’t exactly help the 49ers decide on this front either. The entire position was in a state of flux. But now the 49ers have their two quarterbacks assured in Garoppolo and Lance unlike in previous years, exactly how much need the 49ers have for another quarterback is another matter.

Rosen has to see off Sudfeld as well for the role, but his bigger ceiling and familiarity (at least over Sudfeld) having spent a year in the 49ers system already should see him as the third-string to begin. But just hope he doesn’t see the field in any meaningful action.
