Predicting which 49ers win team awards for 2021
Chalk up another award for Fred Warner. He’ll be the winner of the 49ers’ Most Valuable Player.
There’s not much to argue here. Fred Warner has been the 49ers’ best player the past few seasons, and there’s nothing to suggest he’s slowing down.
He can easily win the team MVP award, but the question will be can he sneak into the NFL conversation?
For the last 33 years, either a running back or quarterback has been named the MVP of the league. Right outside linebacker Lawrence Taylor for the New York Giants was the last defensive player to be named the most valuable player. Taylor and defensive tackle Alan Page, who played for the Minnesota Vikings, were the only two non-offensive players to achieve the honor. Kicker Mark Moseley of the Washington Football Team franchise has been the only special teams player to win the award.

The votes are clearly stacked against Warner before the season even begins. The NFL is an offense-driven league. They’re drawing fans from all age groups with the likes of the Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson, Kansas City Cheifs’ Patrick Mahomes, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Tom Brady.
Warner has the likability of those mentioned above. His jersey, with the 49ers’ 75th anniversary patch, was one of the top sellers when they were released. His play on the defensive side of the ball is almost as exciting as a huge play on offense.
But will the rest of the league buy into the hype the 49ers Faithful has preached about?
If anyone can do it, it’s Warner.
Look for these players to shine in 2021 and watch for a few of them during the NFL awards show at the end of the season.
